Havening Techniques
Havening Techniques ® can be described as a type of psycho-sensory (touch) technique based on the fields of neuroscience and neurobiology which uses sensory input in order to alter thought, mood, and behavior.
Havening is designed to make changes in the brain in order to remove, from both the psyche and the body, the emotional memory of a traumatic or stressful life event and its negative effects.
It uses touch and other sensory inputs to change the brain and reduce emotional distress from traumatic or stressful events
It aims to remove the emotional memory of trauma from the psyche and the body and prevent psychological disorders such as PTSD, anxiety, and phobias
It works by increasing serotonin production in the brain and creating a soothing effect that detaches from the painful memory.

Havening allows us quickly and effectively to take a traumatic experience and release the traumatically encoded components so it becomes just another memory. What that means is that specific memory will not activate the entire physiology of fight/flight/freeze when a person encounters a stimulus similar to one in the traumatically encoded experience. It will no longer burn out the adrenal system (panic) or cause the person to reach for food or alcohol, etc, to soothe their nervous system because of the impact of that earlier trauma.
So the individual is back in a place of empowered control.
Throughout our lives, we are often faced with negative stressors. Most often we are able to overcome these stressors. However, sometimes we are faced with a very significant negative stressor or event, or maybe many multiple stressors, and our ability to “bounce back” becomes compromised.
Havening is about resilience
These previous experiences reduce our brain and bodies ability to naturally defend and “rebound” when faced with more ongoing negative events. We then feel “out of control” or “without hope”.
Therapy Haven Supports mission is to alleviate suffering from experiences with traumatic events/stressors, and build and strengthen resilience to protect from future stressors. We are about giving people freedom and giving people hope they can be the person they have always wanted.
Havening Techniques allows our brains to develop, grow and maintain protective resilience to guard against future traumas and/or stressors.

Havening Techniques consists of two primary components; touch and guided imagery to activate your working memory. The touch can be provider facilitated, or done by you- known as Self-Havening. Three simple touches; the palms of your hands, upper arms and/or face.

No. Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Talk therapy is a many multi-session approach usually consisting of processing, introspection and behavioral intervention and skill development.
Havening sessions consist of a specific formulated treatment technique specifically designed to target encoded memories in our brain. Sessions can vary- but unlike psychotherapy, is not designed to be indefinite.

Absolutely not. Havening is 100% effective either in-person, or using a virtual platform. Self-application of the havening touch, also known as Self-Havening, is fully effective. Self-Havening allows for you to feel increase autonomy during the process, and is actually a critical part of your healing journey; as a means to build confidence and muscle memory as you continue building your personal resilience and positive neuroplasticity outside of sessions. Self-havening allows for virtual visits and for healing in your own comfortable and safe environment.
